Fanduel Tournament Breakdown: Week 4

Kyle Dvorchak

Quarterback

Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City $9,200

Fanduel’s pricing allows you to pay up more than DraftKings’ does so Mahomes is attainable here. He’s especially attainable when his opposing weapons are underpriced, making stacking this game doable.

Mahomes as hit 350 yards and three scores in every game this season. He’s also yet to play in a game in which he trailed in the second half at any point. Detroit isn’t likely to be the first team to break that mold but they are at home.

Mahomes has untapped upside but his pricetag should keep his ownership in check. Take Mahomes and stack this game every way possible.

Running Back

David Johnson, Arizona Cardinals, $6,800

There were rumors that Chase Edmonds would be playing a role in the Arizona offense and they were clearly nothing more than rumors. David Johnson is third in the league in snaps played (178) despite missing multiple drives in Week 2 while he was being examined for an injury.

Now he’ll be dominating the snaps in a game with a rising total. Arizona/Seattle opened at 47 points and now has been bet up to 48.

Finally, the pace of this game should be unreal. Both teams are top-10 in plays run per game. Arizona is first in seconds per play (23.3) and Seattle is sitting at a respectable 12th.(27.9).

Both defenses have also been bleeding points this season, giving up top-10 points to opposing offenses. Play Johnson in the fastest game this week.

Kerryon Johnson, Detroit Lions, $6,500

Johnson began to dominate the Lions’ backfield work last week with 20 carries and a reception. All other Detroit backs combined for five carries. Detroit drafted Johnson in the second to be their workhorse back and his numbers are clearly trending in that direction.

Now he gets to apply that volume in the game with the highest total of the week: 54.5 points.

Kansas City has allowed the fifth-most yards to running backs while opposing teams have rushed on them fewer than half of all other teams.

If Detroit commits to running the football, they should have no problem doing so very efficiently. With a total this high, Johnson is also liable to find the end zone multiple times. He’s the best tournament-play at the running back position.

Wide Receiver

Kenny Golladay, Detroit Lions, $6,700

Kenny Golladay was a favorite of many DFS players last week and he burned them all with an abysmal 2-17-0 stat line. He was still targeted eight times in Week 3 so his atrocious performance was likely a fluke. Volume predicts fantasy points better than any other measure and Golladay is getting it.

Kansas City is also top-10 in passing attempts against teams. When your opponent is putting up points as often as Mahomes does, you’re forced into passing early and often.

Golladay is the No. 1 receiver on a team playing in the highest total game of the slate.

Julio Jones, Atlanta Falcons, $7,800

Julio Jones is in the same price range as Keenan Allen but is not getting nearly the same consideration as the Chargers’ stud receiver. Allen is projected to be the most popular play on the slate.

However, Julio’s range of outcomes is similar to Allen’s but doesn’t require you to play the chalkiest player on the slate. If Julio hits and Allen doesn’t it’s time to open a new bank account.

Jones is still as dominant as ever. If it weren’t for Allen he would be the No. 1 fantasy receiver. He’s currently 5th in air yards (373) and 8th in targets (30).

This play immediately becomes the best on the slate if Calvin Ridley can’t suit up. He has been limited in practice all week with a hip injury.

Tight End

T.J. Hockenson, Detroit Lions, $3,300

Hockenson is the ultimate process-play this week. The top-three tight ends are projected to be owned by more than half of DFS players this week but none of them are playing against the Chiefs. Hockenson is also getting more than enough volume to take advantage of the Chiefs. He’s seventh among tight ends with 170 air yards.

If you’re stacking Kansas City, every player on the team is in play. Robinson and Hardman are getting similar volume while Watkins and Kelce are always capable of erupting.

Detroit is a much more simple situation to decipher. Play two of Hockenson, Golladay, and Johnson, who figure to dominate the work at each position in this offense.

Hockenson is the most obvious play at tight end and isn’t going to be treated as such this week.

Defense

LA Rams, $4,300

The Rams face Tampa Bay at home with a number of positive indicators in their favor:

  • At home
  • 49.5-point total
  • 9-point favorites
  • Jameis Winston is the opposing quarterback

Winston has thrown three interceptions this season and has also fumbled twice. He’s been a turnover machine his entire career and there’s no change in site. As a 9-point dog, he’ll be throwing a lot and that will only lead to more turnovers.
