DraftKings Cash Game Thoughts Week 1

Jon Kelly

Ladies and Gentlemen, football is back! After what felt like an eternity of an offseason, we finally have some football back in our lives which means there is money to be won across the daily fantasy industry. To make things easier for you all, we are going to have site specific cash game content and the links will be posted here at the top to easily navigate between the different platforms. While some of the content in each article may overlap, there will be different plays for each site depending on price.

QB

Cam Newton $6500

I prefer Cam to Winston on DraftKings because he is $100 cheaper as opposed to being more expensive on the other two sites. For anyone that was worried about the minor ankle injury in the preseason, Cam has been completely removed from the injury report as of Thursday which was to be expected if you were following Carolina closely. This game is a popular target all around from everyone here at fantasy bros and you can expect Cam Newton to be heavily involved in both facets of the offense.

Josh Allen $5600

I understand that Josh Allen is generally considered a tournament play but the price here is just too cheap. Despite the low total in this game against the Jets, Allen does have a nice rushing floor and with the addition of deep threat, John Brown, I expect Allen to pay off his price tag relatively easy with room for upside. In the 12 games that Allen played as a rookie last season, he had 30 or more rushing yards in seven of those games and added eight rushing TDs in that span. I know Kyler Murray has rushing value as well but there are just too many concerns with him right now for me to roll him out in cash. If looking to save at the position, Allen is my guy.

RB

Dalvin Cook $6000

Dalvin Cook is a good bet to be the highest owned RB on DraftKings this week but it’s for good reason. Cook is cheaper than Fournette and Chubb on DraftKings which makes it very tempting to just lock him in. He has an excellent matchup against ATL and will continue to be the primary pass catching RB this season. That makes him a three down back that should get the goal line carries as well in a good matchup as a home favorite. SMASH.

Chris Carson $5700

Carson is likely to be one of the most popular running backs of week one for multiple reasons. He is a home favorite and has a great matchup and cheaper price which is what we are looking for in cash games. Additionally, Rashad Penny has yet to prove that he is any threat whatsoever to Carson’s workload along with the additional usage being opened up by Mike Davis exit to Chicago. Carson is a high floor high ceiling play and is at least $1000 too cheap this week.

WR

Dede Westbrook $4800

Dede Westbrook is setting up to be one of the best value plays at WR across all daily fantasy sites and is only $4800 on DraftKings. I already mentioned this is the highest over/under on the main slate and Westbrook is the primary pass catching option for this Jags team. With Foles under center this year, I expect we see Westbrook thrive and it should start this week against a KC defense that were bottom 10 in DraftKings points allowed to the WR position last season. It’s Dede SZN folks, get with it.

Chris Godwin $6200

Chris Godwin is likely to be pretty chalky here but I wouldn’t be able to forgive myself if I faded him this week. Everything sets up perfectly for a Godwin breakout season and a big week one. He is at home in a game that has strong shootout potential and he is finally an every week player now that Adam Humphries and DeSean Jackson are gone. I don’t even think that 10 targets is an unreasonable projection for Godwin this week considering the high paced matchup and the concentrated passing attack. If you give Godwin 10 targets against any team then I’m playing him. Period.

TE

Hunter Henry $3900

Henry is expected to be the heaviest owned TE by a mile this week. For some reason DraftKings only priced him below 4K which makes him an excellent cash game target. He is finally healthy and will be one of the featured pass catchers in that offense this season. He is essentially a free square in cash games and there is little reason to look elsewhere aside from tournaments.

Delanie Walker $3500

I mentioned Walker on the podcast this week as a guy that sets up with a great price and great matchup but is likely to be overlooked here. That generally makes someone a good tournament play but I am comfortable rolling him out in cash if you want to avoid the Henry chalk. Cleveland struggles against TEs and this year should be no different.

D/ST

Philadelphia Eagles $3600

Eagles are my favorite D/ST of this week on every site. It is always a great spot when you can get a heavy favorite against a bad quarterback and a weak offense. I expect the Eagles to get a ton of pressure on Washington and create sacks and turnovers. The icing on the cake is that Washington struggles in special teams so if we run really pure then maybe we get a kick or punt return TD as well.

Seattle Seahawks $3100

If I was going to get away from the Eagles in cash then it would be with the Seahawks here. I do think their defense is worse than the public expects them to be but they are a big home favorite against a Bengals team that will be without AJ Green and should likely struggle here. It also correlates with the Chris Carson play as well. There isn’t much else to be said.
